What Are Tears

What are tears but intimations?
Gems are formed against the grain,
Beauty born of desolation,

The soul's response to a heart's repression,
Lustrous pearl round seeds of pain.
What are tears but intimations?

Mountains thrive in deprivation
But granite walls endure in vain,
Beauty born of desolation.

Zephyrs whisper Time's confession
As fragile canyons are carved by rain.
What are tears but intimations

Of death's defeat by life's obsession,
Erecting joy from grief's remains,
Beauty born of desolation.

Sun and shadow the soul's possession,
The skies are tinted with bloody stains.
What are tears but intimations ...
Beauty born of desolation.
